RESET STEPS
GM Driver Information Center · covers model years 2010–2011
Chevrolet · GMC · Buick · Cadillac (most models, ~2000 and newer)
- 1
Turn the ignition to ON/RUN without starting the engine. On push-button vehicles, press START twice without touching the brake.
- 2
Use the steering-wheel DIC controls (or the INFO button on older clusters) to page to the OIL LIFE REMAINING display.
- 3
Press and hold the ✓/ENTER (or RESET/SET) button for about 5 seconds until the display flashes, then shows 100%.
- 4
Turn the ignition OFF, then start the engine and confirm the change-oil message is gone.
Tip: On many 2014-and-newer models you can also reset from the touchscreen: Settings → Vehicle → Oil Life → Reset.
Oil needed for an oil change
5.0–6.3 qt (4.7–6.0 L)
Capacity with a new filter. Verify the exact amount and oil grade (viscosity) in your owner's manual before filling.
TIRES & WHEELS
Lug nut torque
100 ft-lb (140 N·m)
Tighten in a star pattern; re-check after 50–100 miles.
Drivetrain
FWD with AWD on many trims
Forward cross (FWD)
- Front tires move straight back to the rear on the same side.
- Rear tires cross to the front: left rear → right front, right rear → left front.
X-pattern (AWD)
- Every tire crosses diagonally: left front ↔ right rear, right front ↔ left rear.
- Keep all four tires within the same tread depth (AWD systems are sensitive to mismatched sizes).
Directional or staggered tires use different rules — see all rotation patterns.
TPMS reset · Relearn with key fob / horn chirp (or TPMS tool on newer models)
- 1
Set all tires to the pressure on the door-jamb sticker.
- 2
Turn the ignition on (engine off). Older models: press lock + unlock on the key fob together until the horn chirps twice. Newer models: in the cluster go to Tire Pressure and hold the select button until the horn chirps.
- 3
Starting at the left front, activate each sensor with a TPMS tool (or let air out until the horn chirps).
- 4
Go left front → right front → right rear → left rear. A chirp confirms each wheel; after the last one, the horn chirps twice and the relearn is done.
Torque, drivetrain and TPMS info are common values for this model family. Verify in your owner's manual or service info before working on the vehicle.
BEFORE YOU START
- Only reset the oil life after a real oil and filter change.
- Warm oil is hot — let the engine cool a few minutes before draining.
- Reset resets the internal interval timer; it doesn't change what's in the sump.
